Ancillary care refers to the wide range of healthcare services provided to support the work of a primary physician. Ancillary care is currently one of the fastest growing sectors of healthcare, representing nearly 30 percent of medical services today. With today's rising healthcare costs, ancillary providers are frequently an essential, cost-saving alternative to outpatient hospital and physician services.

Included in its comprehensive network of services, AWC offers a wide range ancillary care to support its specialty providers in their recommended course of treatment. These services can be classified into three categories: diagnostic, therapeutic, and custodial. Diagnostic services include laboratory tests, radiology, genetic testing, diagnostic imaging, EMG and more. Therapeutic services range from rehabilitation to physical and occupational therapy, as well as massage, chiropractic services, and speech therapy. Custodial services include everything from hospice care and long-term acute care to nursing facilities and urgent care.

The Hospital Gatekeeper is a board-certified physician with special hospital privileges, having access to every department within a hospital. The Gatekeeper will direct and oversee the entire inpatient stay to ensure efficient admissions, a proper treatment plan, an accurate “length of stay”, and the patient’s overall continuity of care.

As an early intervention and cost-saving method, the Gatekeeper was initially designed to monitor and if required, decrease a patients ‘length of stay’ in the hospital, according to national medical standards. Today, the Gatekeeper is an onsite physician that interacts closely with each medical specialist providing care to a patient - from admission to discharge - to ensure the best quality of care is being received. In addition, the Gatekeeper will oversee the ‘plan of discharge’ to ensure the patient transitions from the hospital back to their home or other facility in a comfortable and efficient manner. On call 24/7/365, the Gatekeeper oversees medical treatments, medications, tests, x-rays and any other recommended ancillary services.

The effectiveness of the Gatekeeper method has results?

  • 32% average decrease in hospital ‘length of stay’ and any unnecessary or duplicate medical charges (i.e. tests, X-rays, Rx, etc.)
  • 15% average decrease in overall costs associated in complete hospital care.
